The Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, hosted an official visit of a Gazprom delegation led by Deputy Chairman of its Management Board Vitaly Markelov who met with Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Chairman of Petrovietnam Tran Sy Thanh, and member of the CPV Central Committee and Head of its Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh.
Both Gazprom and Petrovietnam representatives attended the meetings, which also featured the participation of the Managing Director and CEO of Gazprom EP International, Sergey Tumanov.
The sides addressed the status of its joint projects, focusing on the Quang Tri Power Plant, a construction project with respect to which Gazprom EP International is pending the granting of an investor’s status.
On top of that, Vitaly Markelov and Tran Sy Thanh talked about the outlook for Vietnam’s LNG market and the LNG plant project in particular. The completion of the 14,000 tpa LNG plant is scheduled for 2020, with LNG produced being directed to supply natural gas fuel for urban transport needs in Ho Chi Minh.
The sides also addressed other aspects of joint work and looked into the possibility of developing new projects in the energy sector. The Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee emphasized that the Gazprom Group remains interested in expanding the bilateral cooperation in all of its key areas.
Gazprom International is Gazprom’s operator of overseas projects related to exploring and developing hydrocarbon fields. Gazprom’s strategy pursuing new international markets views Vietnam as one of the Asia-Pacific countries with the most potential for energy projects.
